08|08|08: It's Finally Here

I have been waiting for the Beijing Olympics since they were announced as the host city in 2001. I can't really describe the feelings I get watching these events every two years; they're overwhelming. I love the stories of the moms who took their kids to row practice every day at 4:30 AM, I love the camaraderie of the athletes, I love the architectural wonders cities create to host the games, and I love Kate Couric (now Meredith Viera, I guess) narrating us through the parade of nations, offering ridiculous facts about how many metals Andorra has received or how many Georgian athletes used to compete for the Soviet Union.

My two favorite moments from the Opening Ceremonies (so far):

The bubble ladies in Albertville:

The archer's true aim in Barcelona (I just teared up watching this one again!! How can I be such a nerd?!?!):

I was telling T this morning that I shouldn't have shaved -- I get such chills watching the Games. I guarantee you I will tear up tonight. Hey, I love fireworks, and since the Chinese invented them, I'm expecting nothing below awesome grandeur and majesty.
